TerraFirmaMK were commissioned by RPS Milton Keynes to carry out an initial assessment of the storm water proposal following successful purchase and planning approval. The storm water design principles were based upon a 'source' control methodology with most of the water to be retained on site through infiltration, storage features and controls. This posed a number of challenges as the site geology was underlain with clay deposits, making infiltration rate very low. This was achieved by using several controls in conjunction with a varied array of structures such as porous paving, infiltration blankets, cellular storage and attenuation basin; all having a measure of infiltration and conveyance. The whole system was then restricted to a maximum discharge rate to a small ditch outfall.

The whole design was then rigorously checked by the LLFA and after several discussions and tweaks to the proposals, passed their standards.
